A Revised Internet Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories. This draft is a work item of the TCP Client Identity
Protocol Working Group of the IETF.

Note: This revision reflects comments received during the last call period.

       Title : Identification Server
       Author(s) : Mike StJohns
       Filename : draft-ietf-ident-idserver-03.txt
       Pages : 10

The Identification Server Protocol (aka "ident", aka "the Ident
Protocol", aka "the Identification Protocol") provides a means to
determine the identity of a user of a particular TCP connection.
Given a TCP port number pair, it returns a character string which
identifies the owner of that connection on the server's system.

The Identification Server Protocol was formerly called the
Authentication Server Protocol. It has been renamed to better reflect
its function.
