Group Name: Point-to-Point Protocol Extensions WG (pppext) IETF Area: Internet Date/Time: Wednesday, November 3, 1993 0930-1200 Thursday, November 4, 1993 0930-1200 --------- The following was mailed to the PPP Mailing list. Since then all but one of the indicated drafts have materialized, so we're well on our way. ================================================ From fbaker Mon Oct 18 10:08:12 1993 To: ietf-ppp@ucdavis.edu Subject: Houston IETF Agenda Here is the set of drafts in the internet drafts directory relating to PPP, and what I understand to be their current status: Currently RFCs (!) draft-ietf-pppext-appletalk-03.txt draft-ietf-pppext-authentication-06.txt draft-ietf-pppext-lcp-00.txt draft-ietf-pppext-osinlcp-02.txt Approved by the IESG but not yet issued as an RFC: draft-ietf-pppext-cipx-04.txt draft-ietf-pppext-ipxcp-04.txt Pending IESG Action: draft-ietf-pppext-hdlc-framing-02.txt (Draft Standard) draft-ietf-pppext-lcp-main-02.txt (Draft Standard) draft-ietf-pppext-lcpext-04.txt (Proposed Standard) draft-ietf-pppext-requirements-01.txt (to be an FYI) Under revision (please post a draft this week for discussion at the IETF): draft-ietf-pppext-for-bridging-00.txt draft-ietf-pppext-isdn-03.txt draft-ietf-pppext-multilink-00.txt compression draft Ready to discuss at IETF: draft-ietf-pppext-frame-relay-02.txt draft-ietf-pppext-netbios-fcp-00.txt draft-ietf-pppext-reliable-00.txt draft-ietf-pppext-sonet-01.txt draft-ietf-pppext-x25-02.txt I am expecting little discussion of the Frame Relay and X.25 documents. These are likely to become FYI or Experimental documents, and are basically awaiting the assignment of a NLPID value by X3S3. Similarly SONET - I believe that the document is essentially correct (the protocol will work) but no-one has advised me that they are implementing to it. Therefore, I expect that it will move forward with little comment to an FYI or Experimental status. The recent work has been in ISDN, Bridging, Multi-link, Reliable Links, Compression, and NetBIOS. ISDN, Bridging, Multi-link, and Compression each have drafts somewhere in the process of being edited, and I would humbly request that their respective authors post them in the Internet Drafts directory in whatever form they are (they are all close to final form), so that a wider audience can discuss them. In the case of ISDN, once certain language has been removed/changed per Joel Halpern's note of the other day, I believe that this is ready for submission to the IESG. The agenda for the Houston meeting is therefore: we will pause to refer the following to the IESG: draft-ietf-pppext-isdn-04.txt (JMH updates to -03.txt) draft-ietf-pppext-frame-relay-02.txt draft-ietf-pppext-sonet-01.txt draft-ietf-pppext-x25-02.txt we will then discuss the following, probably over a period of two days: draft-ietf-pppext-for-bridging-01.txt (reformat of -00, capturing some implementation experience). draft-ietf-pppext-multilink-01.txt (-00 with changes Keith noted last week) draft-ietf-pppext-netbios-fcp-00.txt (new work) draft-ietf-pppext-reliable-00.txt (LAPB) compression draft A final agenda item is that I would like the group to plan the way forward for the PPP Working Group. I am of the opinion (I may be alone in this) that we are nearly done, and that the recent squabbles on and off the list are sympotmatic of a group looking for things to do. To actually complete our work, we must bring all documents to Full Standard, Historical, or FYI status. I tend to think that can be accomplished in the coming 12-18 months. I think it would be helpful for all of us if we focus on acheiving that.
