 A Revised Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
 directories.

Title : Application of Internet Cache Protocol (ICP), version 2
       Author(s) : D. Wessels, K. Claffy
       Filename : draft-wessels-icp-v2-appl-02.txt
       Pages : 24

This document describes the application of ICPv2 (Internet Cache Protocol
version 2, RFCXXXX) to Web caching. ICPv2 is a lightweight message format
used for communication among Web caches. Several independent caching
implementations now use ICP[3,5], making it important to codify the
existing practical uses of ICP for those trying to implement, deploy, and
extend its use.

ICP queries and replies refer to the existence of URLs (or objects) in
neighbor caches. Caches exchange ICP messages and use the gathered
information to select the most appropriate location from which to retrieve
an object. A companion document (RFCXXXX) describes the format and syntax
of the protocol itself. In this document we focus on issues of ICP
deployment, efficiency, security, and interaction with other aspects of Web
traffic behavior.

Send a message to: mailserv@ds.internic.net. In the body type:
     "FILE /internet-drafts/draft-wessels-icp-v2-appl-02.txt".

NOTE: The mail server at ds.internic.net can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e., documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
      how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version
of the Internet-Draft.
