A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories.
Title : E-mail addressing: the worst of all worlds?
Author(s) : G. Klyne
Filename : draft-klyne-addressing-00.txt
Pages : 5
Date : 02/26/1997
This memo is a critique of Internet e-mail addressing, with particular
reference to its suitability for use in a general purpose interpersonal
communication medium as opposed to its present use largely within a
restricted community.
The critique focusses on the differences between e-mail addresses
and other forms of addressing with which very many lay people are
intimately familiar.
This memo does not offer any solutions to the issues raised; rather
it is hoped to provoke some debate on the matter. The author would be
particularly interested in views from those whose natural language
does not use the Roman (western) alphabet.

Internet-Drafts are also available by mail.
Send a message to: mailserv@ds.internic.net. In the body type:
"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-klyne-addressing-00.txt".
NOTE: The mail server at ds.internic.net can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e., documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
how to manipulate these messages.
Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version
of the Internet-Draft.
