A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories. Title : Web Based System and Network Management Author(s) : B. Harrison, P. Mellquist, A. Pell Filename : draft-mellquist-web-sys-00.txt Pages : 7 Date : 06/14/1996 This document describes the application of the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) for system and network management. Presented are mechanisms which facilitate system and network management including the discovery of HTTP management entities, how management content may be accessed, and lastly, the role of a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent providing SNMP information through the use of HTTP. Management and HTTP may be categorized into two groups, the management of HTTP[3] and management using HTTP. The focus of this document is on the latter, "web based management". Internet-Drafts are available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username "anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. Send a message to: mailserv@ds.internic.net. In the body type: "FILE /internet-drafts/draft-mellquist-web-sys-00.txt". NOTE: The mail server at ds.internic.net can return the document in MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE" command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with "multipart" MIME messages (i.e., documents which have been split up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on how to manipulate these messages. For questions, please mail to Internet-Drafts@cnri.reston.va.us. Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the Internet-Draft.
