The IESG has approved the Internet-Draft "The PPP Multilink Protocol
(MP)" <draft-ietf-pppext-multilink-12.txt> as a Draft Standard. This
document is the product of the Point-to-Point Protocol Extensions Working
Group. The IESG contact persons are Frank Kastenholz and Jeffrey Burgan.

Technical Summary

The PPP Multilink protocol provides a method of splitting and then
recombining and sequencing datagrams across multiple logical links
between two PPP peers. The original intent is to support multiple
ISDN channels between the two peers, although the protocol is
  applicable to any multiply-linked peers.

The changes to the protocol specification in going from Proposed to
Draft standard are minor and editorial in nature. This document is an
update to RFC1717, currently a Proposed Standard. A change log is
  included in the specification.

Working Group Summary

The protocol is the product of the PPP Extensions working group. It
is the strong consensus of the working group that this protocol be
  advanced.

A call to the working group produced reports of a large number (at
  least 15) interoperable implementations.

Protocol Quality

The protocol was reviewed for the IESG by Frank Kastenholz.

Note to RFC Editor:

There is a typo at the top of page two:

The differences between the current PPP Multilink specification
(RFC 1717) and this memo are explained in Section 10. Any system

Section 10 should be Section 11.
