A Revised Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories. This draft is a work item of the Whois and Network Information
Lookup Service Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Whois and Network Information Lookup Service Whois++
       Author(s) : J. Gargano, K. Weiss
       Filename : draft-ietf-wnils-whois-lookup-02.txt
       Pages : 6
       Date : 04/24/1995

As currently defined, NICNAME/WHOIS [HARR85] service is a TCP transaction
based query/response server, running on a few specific central machines,
that provides netwide directory service to Internet users. The Network
Information Center (NIC) maintains the central NICNAME database and server,
defined in RFC 954, providing online look-up of individuals, network
organizations, key host machines, and other information of interest to
users of the Internet. The usefulness of this service has lead to the
development of other distributed directory information servers and
information retrieval tools and it is anticipated more will be created.
Many sites now maintain local directory servers with information about
individuals, departments and services at that specific site.

Send a message to: mailserv@ds.internic.net. In the body type:
     "FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-wnils-whois-lookup-02.txt".

NOTE: The mail server at ds.internic.net can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e., documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
      how to manipulate these messages.

For questions, please mail to Internet-Drafts@cnri.reston.va.us.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version
of the Internet-Draft.
