A Revised Internet Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories. This draft is a work item of the
Common Authentication Technology Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Generic Security Service Application Program
                   Interface
       Author(s) : John Linn
       Filename : draft-ietf-cat-genericsec-01.txt, .ps
       Pages : 61

This Internet-Draft proposes a Generic Security Service Application
Program Interface (GSS-API) definition, providing security services to
callers in a generic fashion which is supportable with a range of
underlying mechanisms and technologies. Security contexts are
established between peers, accomplishing peer entity authentication
and providing the basis for subsequent per-message data origin
authentication, integrity, and confidentiality protection services in
conjunction with those contexts.

This memo defines GSS-API services and primitives at a level which is
independent of underlying security mechanism and programming language
environment, and is to be complemented by related documents defining
parameter bindings for particular language environments and defining
token formats, protocols, and procedures to be implemented in order to
realize GSS-API services atop a variety of underlying security
mechanisms.
