The IESG has received a request to consider publication of Variance Request for The PPP Connection Control Protocol and The PPP Encryption Control Protocol <draft-kastenholz-ppp-variance-00.txt> as a Best Current Practice RFC. Note that this will be the first variance exercise by the IETF following the publication of RFC1871/BCP2, "Addendum to RFC 1602 -- Variance Procedure." If the variance is accepted by the community, then the PPP Compression Control Protocol (CCP) and PPP Encryption Control Protocol (ECP) will then be considered by the IESG for publication as standards track RFCs. The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits final comments on this action. Please send any comments to the iesg@cnri.reston.va.us or ietf@cnri.reston.va.us mailing lists by January 19, 1996.
