I don't know whether a clarifying note is in order or not, but the Subject
line of this announcement was a bit misleading: the most important point
is that the IMAP4 specification itself is now a Proposed Standard. (The
"authentication mechanisms" document is an auxiliary to the main protocol
spec.)
