Hi Juan-Carlos, Wassim,

Thanks for your email.

The purpose of the two drafts about addressing is, in a first step, to document what is the state of IP addressing, i.e. how addresses are used vs what are the needs (driven by use cases), with the ultimate goal of open discussion to identify possible evolution directions. As such the intention is to continue the discussion beyond these two documents, exactly to identify how addressing should/may evolve.
There is no solution at this stage and is anyway a bit early to tackle this topic.

It is my understanding that such, more long term, activity is beyond the INTAREA WG charter, so we need to think a bit what is the best way forward.
I would like to ask anyway for a small presentation slot at IETF 114, to present the updates and make a point on the next steps.

Does it sound ok for you?

As for the name of the gap analysis document, using the word “problems” is in conflict with the problem statement document.
The word “issues” is also a bit strong, since current addressing model did a fine job so far, question is how to make it evolve along the emerging use cases.
What about “considerations”?

Ciao

Luigi

Subject: Next steps for draft-jia-intarea-internet-addressing-gap-analysis

Hi Luigi, Yihao, et al.

Under the context of your request for a call for adoption for draft-jia-intarea-internet-addressing-gap-analysis-02, after discussing with our AD (Éric), we would like to know:

· Is the purpose of the draft to have a one shot informational/academic publication?
· Is the intention to propose solutions beyond the current work and examples that are mentioned in the draft?

Also, you may want to consider changing “gaps” by “issues” or “problems.”

Please let us and the WG know your views so that we can take the next steps accordingly.

Best,

Juan-Carlos & Wassim
(IntArea WG chairs)
