Hi, NOTE - The IETF has just approved the TLS/DTLS binding of SNMP as a Proposed Standard. This will *rapidly* become the dominant method of SNMP support in infrastructure and end devices (like MFDs) in enterprise networks, because it leverages the current ubiquitous support for TLS. This will displace traditional SNMPv3 (hard to deploy and configure). Cheers, - Ira Ira McDonald (Musician / Software Architect) Chair - Linux Foundation Open Printing WG Co-Chair - TCG Hardcopy WG IETF Designated Expert - IPP & Printer MIB Blue Roof Music/High North Inc http://sites.google.com/site/blueroofmusic http://sites.google.com/site/highnorthinc mailto:blueroofmusic@gmail.com winter: 579 Park Place Saline, MI 48176 734-944-0094 summer: PO Box 221 Grand Marais, MI 49839 906-494-2434 ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: The IESG <iesg-secretary@ietf.org> Date: Wed, May 12, 2010 at 2:35 PM Subject: [Isms] Protocol Action: 'Transport Layer Security (TLS) Transport Model for the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)' to Proposed Standard To: IETF-Announce <ietf-announce@ietf.org> Cc: Internet Architecture Board <iab@iab.org>, isms mailing list <isms@ietf.org>, isms chair <isms-chairs@tools.ietf.org>, RFC Editor <rfc-editor@rfc-editor.org> The IESG has approved the following document: - 'Transport Layer Security (TLS) Transport Model for the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) ' <draft-ietf-isms-dtls-tm-14.txt> as a Proposed Standard This document is the product of the Integrated Security Model for SNMP Working Group. The IESG contact persons are Sean Turner and Tim Polk. A URL of this Internet-Draft is: http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-isms-dtls-tm-14.txt Technical Summary This document describes a Transport Model for the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), that uses either the Transport Layer Security protocol or the Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) protocol. The TLS and DTLS protocols provide authentication and privacy services for SNMP applications. This document describes how the TLS Transport Model (TLSTM) implements the needed features of a SNMP Transport Subsystem to make this protection possible in an interoperable way. Working Group Summary This ID is the product of the ISMS WG. The WG went over several revisions of this document and the document and all WG last call comments have been resolved. There has been strong WG consensus to publish this document as Proposed Standard. Document Quality There are two known implementations in progress of the (D)TLS Transport Model. Personnel Juergen Schoenwaelder (j.schoenwaelder@jacobs-university.de) is the document shepherd. Sean Turner is the Responsible Area Director. _______________________________________________ Isms mailing list Isms@ietf.org https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/isms -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. _______________________________________________ pwg-announce mailing list pwg-announce@pwg.org https://www.pwg.org/mailman/listinfo/pwg-announce
