I think what Avram may be getting at is that it might appear a bit silly to
say something is "optimized" for "all" types of anything. If something is
optimized, I would expect it to be for a particular type of "thing". So,
how about using the following text instead:

"The LZS algorithm is a general purpose lossless compression algorithm for
use with a wide variety of data types. Its encoding method is very
efficient, providing compression for strings as short as two octets in
length."
