Dear 6MANers:

SAIL is a complement to the SAVI and WiND work. SAIL extends the DAR/DAC based DAD process in RFC 6775 and distributes ND related state in a mapping system inside the (multilink) subnet. The mapping system enables to query where a given IPv6 is located in the subnet, as well as resolve MAC layer address and other information, without the need of a multicast operation. The system can be fed by classical SAVI style snooping. But preferably it is fed by a registration mechanism such as RFC 6775, WiND, or redistributed RPL from the edge of the multilink subnet.

The draft in its early version is mostly about positioning vs. existing work and trying to derive a common abstraction. Then we propose extensions based on RFC 6775 DAR/DAC that feeds the mapping system. The overall idea is to relieve the backbone from as much link layer multicast as we can and yet maintain a knowledge of the location of mobile devices in an extremely scalable fashion.

More in the draft...

Pascal

Abstract:
This draft proposes an extension to IPv6 Neighbor Discovery to
exchange Stateful Address Identification and Location between State
Maintaining Entities located over a backbone link about attached
nodes that are attached to the backbone via a Wireless Link, in order
to maintain all the entities up-to-date and maintain reachability as
   the attached nodes move.

Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submission until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.
