Hi John, There are many deployments choices for NAT64 and DNS64. I’ve depicted them in https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc8683/. Basically, yes both the DNS64 and the NAT64 should be able to be reachable from the IPv6-only network and (typically) in a different interface to the IPv4-only. The one you’re suggesting is very close to the one I’ve prepared, however Med suggested avoiding such changes as it was well understood in the original RFC6146: +--------------+ +--------------+ | IPv6-only | | IPv4-only | | network | +--------+ | network | | | | DNS + | | | | | --| DNS64 |-- | +----+ | | +----+ | | +--------+ | | | H2 | | | | H1 | |--| |--| +----+ | | +----+ | | +--------+ | | 192.0.2.1 | | 2001:db8::1 | --|stateful|-- | | | | | NAT64 | | | | | +--------+ | | +--------------+ +--------------+ Regards, Jordi @jordipalet > El 9 jul 2026, a las 19:00, John R Levine <johnl@taugh.com> escribió: > >> >> A you know that figure is inherited from RFC6146, which is meant to provide a "simple example". >> Jordi did actually proposed a revised version that I found confusing.
