The (sorry: long overdue) updated version of the IMG envelope deals with embedding of metadata fragments in a simple way which is also backwards compatible with the existing referencing approach. It also goes a long way in explaining the usage of IMG envelopes and provides the textual (XML) instance of the envelope.

The greatest omission is a description of which IMG requirements (http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-mmusic-img-req-07.txt) are addressed by the IMG envelope and the extent to which they are fulfilled.

Anyone interested may wish to have a look at the 3GPP equivalent (ftp://ftp.3gpp.org/TSG_SA/WG4_CODEC/Ad-hoc_PSM/Docs/S4-AHP176.zip) which enables referencing (3GPP has agreed to enable embedding though the updated schema is not yet in the aggregated specification). Previous efforts on harmonisation mean that the referencing envelope is currently identical. Harmonisation on the embedded envelope is realistic so if you are interested in both IETF and 3GPP please check the schema if you have not previously got up to speed on this!

The authors do not plan to present this I-D in Washington (unfortunately we 3 are unable to attend). Thus the mailing list (and private emails for the shy) are the recommended mode review.
