Port Control Protocol (PCP, RFC6887) provides a mechanism to describe a flow to the network. The primary driver for PCP has been creating port mappings on NAT and firewall devices. When doing this, PCP pushes flow information from the host into the network (specifically to the network's NAT or firewall device), and receives information back from the network (from the NAT or firewall device).

PCP can also be used to signal flow characteristics to the network, and the network to signal its ability to accommodate that flow back to the host. In this draft, ICE agent uses PCP Flow Extension to determine the link characteristics of the host's interfaces, which influences the ICE candidate priority.

Your reviews/comments/suggestions are appreciated.

Abstract:
A host with multiple interfaces needs to choose the best interface
for communication. Oftentimes, this decision is based on a static
configuration and does not consider the link characteristics of that
interface, which may affect the user experience.

This document describes a mechanism for an endpoint to query the link
characteristics from the access router (the router at the other end
of the endpoint's access link) using a Port Control Protocol (PCP)
Flow Extension. This information influences endpoint's Interactive
Connectivity Establishment (ICE) candidate selection algorithm.

Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submission
until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.
