Hi all,

From my side, I’m interested on exposure of network capabilities / information. Maybe it can be considered as an additional topic to the ones on the list, even though could also be considered as part of the existing ones.

Going to the listed items, item (1) can be defined in a broader manner, in the sense that now it seems to be limited to the topic of telemetry. In other words, other information could be integrated with Kafka. For instance, we can consider topological information being published in Kafka, together with associated metrics. As a matter of work in progress in this area, I can refer to:

  * In Telefonica we have a prototype for topological information in Kafka following ALTO cost map model. This can be in fact presented at IETF 119.
  * There is also ongoing work on adding performance metrics (latency, jitter) on top of that topological information as Kafka topics by integrating TimeMap open source tool (https://timemap.geant.org/) with ALTO so that consumers of the topological information (e.g., applications) can subscribe to the performance information of interest. This will be probably ready for IETF 120.

Complementary topics regarding exposure, I can also mention the following:

  * joint Telefonica and Cisco effort on the definition of APIs for energy information, initially described in draft-petra-path-energy-api-00, with an on-going PoC that can be showcased in IETF 119. The referred draft was presented in IETF 118 in both PANRG and E-Impact.
  * Exposure of network information to applications. The case of Telefonica CDN consuming topological information additionally aggregating topological location of CDN streamers and CDN subscribers’ IP pools has been reported in MOPS and ALTO in IETF 114, 115 and 116.

In addition to that cases, other information is suitable for being exposed (via Kafka or by other means) and using different possible models (YANG, ALTO, …)

  * Compute metrics and/or resources. Initial work on the topics is described in draft-contreras-alto-service-edge & draft-llc-teas-dc-aware-topo-model
  * Service instances deployed in a network. Initial work on the topics is described in draft-lcsr-alto-service-functions & draft-ietf-teas-sf-aware-topo-model
  * Let me refer as well to the side meeting on compute exposure celebrated during IETF 118, here: https://github.com/compute-exposure/ietf-118-side-meeting

Apart from the exposure topic (being part of some of the existing items, or as a new one), from my side I expect active contribution to (3) and (6).

Best regards

Luis

Dear all,

In order to help our AD finalizing the NMOP charter<https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/nmop/about/>, the operators should speak up.
Which topics are you interested into? And, it goes without saying, willing to dedicate some time on?

Regards, Benoit

Hi,

As per my introduction email, it would be helpful to have list of initial topics and work that this WG will focus on progressing. This doesn't mean that all agenda time and presentations need to be focussed solely on these topics, but it means which areas the WG intends to primary concentrate on (e.g., if it adopts drafts).

Ideally, I think that I'm looking for the top three topics for the WG to focus on, but could be more or less, depending on feedback.

Based on the recent side meetings, and other topics that have come up in discussion, I think that some potential topics could be:

(1) YANG Telemetry/Kafka integration

(2) Issues related to mapping configuration, and agreement on north bound interfaces from the device (protocol and model families)

(3) Anomaly detection and Incident management

(4) Issues related to deployment/usage of YANG topology modules (e.g., digital map)

(5) Controller architectures for management of pluggable optics (there are several drafts currently in CCAMP)

(6) An update of operator requirements on Network Mgmt protocols/modelling within the IETF. E.g., something like RFC 3535-bis.

Are there other topics that the operators are interested in the near term, and which of these topics are most important to focus on?

Regards,

Rob
