I believe there was a minor reference in the IETF125 Hackathon notes regarding my repo below that looked to take the IETF Yang data models to OWL and then utilise these for business purposes in Network Management.

There is a number of learnings from performing that task that may be interesting or valuable.

There was a corresponding tie here to the BBF and IVY on creating an ontology for Network Management with AI Ready Data and self-modifying graphs. As the intent was to manage both the active and passive networks (all network infrastructure) and reason across the total network.

Thanks, and yes, some re-discovery of fire here. That said, new discussions and cases continue to come up, as well as new ideas e.g. concerning use of cognitive AI agents in automating implicated processes.

I have posted an AI-generated summary of the KG team history and work, findings etc. as available from posted materials, on the Github cited below (direct link: https://github.com/ChrisFJanz/meaning-across-representations/blob/main/nmop_kg_history.md ). Was helpful for me as someone not involved.

The issue is common as you have defined. There were 2 initial IETF papers that commence creating a semantic model for network operations and another for Incident Management. There was a team formed that met for a number of months and the end agreed position was that these papers could proceed down the independent path if the authors decided to proceed that way. Unfortunately, the team ceased meeting a few months ago now. Perhaps there is some material in regard to the previous hackathon submissions and team meeting minutes that may be of use.

EXTERNAL SENDER – Be cautious opening Links and Attachments

All – as I think has been broadly recognized during meetings last week and through various activities and discussion threads both leading up to and following them, a common theme and general problem seems to have emerged, in various ways, within and across NMOP, NETMOD, ONSEN, NMRG, and now as one element of the AIOps discussion.



These multiple discussions and problem contexts point at the same need: for semantic models for network information — meaning made explicit and independent of form – capable of supporting bridging of model and system boundaries and information consumption by machines.



I have put some form, structure and justification around a problem statement and tied it all to the various takes/contexts mooted and discussions in play. In the end I think there is a relatively focused but true research problem to be considered, which I have outlined and would suggest properly belongs in NMRG. For further discussion there … of course such a program would not preclude related activities and outcomes in other WGs, perhaps working against narrower/more specific targets.
