Hi all. Sorry if this question has been asked before.

Regarding the following excerpt from draft-ietf-pkix-ipki-part4-02...

        4.1.3 Community and Applicability

                 [cut]

                 This subcomponent also contains:

                    * A list of applications for which the issued
certificates
                    are suitable.

                    * A list of applications for which use of the
issued
certificates is restricted. (This list implicitly
prohibits
all other uses for the certificates.)

...anybody wants to explain if the term "application" here means:

* some specific software product (e.g. Netscape Navigator, Lotus
Domino, etc.)
* a generic software system category that accomplish some category
of business needs (e.g. home banking, software publishing, digital
signature of disk files, etc.)

TIA to all volunteers,
   Adriano
