Yes, there is a use for the first few lines of the body.  It allows the
user to "peek" at the text of a message.

If there were a reasonable way to abort a message transfer, this wouldn't
be a problem, but there is not; having QUIT pitch deletions puts the final
nail in that coffin.

I use TOP in both senses; as a way to get just the headers and as a way to
get the headers plus "some" of the body.
