The templates contain ascii-art as well as SVG.  Omitting the ascii-art is correct, but not recommended.  As noted in the documentation:

> If only SVG is provided then it is used in the HTML and PDF rendering but no diagram is included in the plaintext rendering, replaced with a message that says "Artwork only available as SVG". For this reason, providing only SVG is not recommended.
