I object to this line of reasoning.

I won't stand in the way of ignoring the problem and just using the last 
identifier, but I think what we've done before is probably a mistake now 
(no, I don't think we should go change anything we've done in the past 
over it) and that we should do better in the future. On reflection, as I 
said before, I think we've done a disservice to the users.

It will come to a head if we ever have a collision with text/foo or 
application/foo.

But this is just my advice.
