Hi Yisong,

I have reviewed the draft and have two questions:
       1. Which scenarios can benefit from rapid fault perception and switchover?
[Changwang] A typical scenario is the spine-leaf based DC network such as AI training network.
We are also looking for more applicable scenarios.

 2. How is remote fault perception technology implemented, and what requirements does it pose on upper-layer protocols and hardware?

[Changwang]
A failure is first detected by the router adjacent to it, and then will be notified to neighbors. I think the failure notification between neighboring routers has three requirements: independent of routing protocols, avoiding broadcast flooding, and millisecond or microsecond level speed.
In section 3.1 of the reference document, traditional routing involves destination addresses and next hops.
To achieve fast fault perception in the path, it is necessary to add a pathlist corresponding to the next hop, with the pathlist associated with remote fault notifications.

Best Regards,

Tingting Han

Hi Everyone,

We have just submitted a draft on the rapid switchover of remote fault perception. The link for this draft is: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-liu-rtgwg-path-aware-remote-protection/

The current main protection technologies include local protection through FRR, such as TI-LFA protection, and end-to-end protection through multi-path protection.
In specific network scenarios, such as a spine-leaf two-layer architecture, TI-LFA cannot be deployed, and even if it is deployed, traffic will still loop during a fault. Therefore, this draft proposes a mechanism for rapid switchover that is aware of remote paths. By associating the next hops with remote path information at the forwarding plane, the local end can be quickly notified to switch in the event of remote fault, achieving fault switchover in milliseconds, or even microseconds.

We welcome your feedback. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know.

Best Regards
Yisong
