Hi,

The following describes a mailing list intended as a tool for demonstration
and experimentation with 8 bit mail.

[excerpted from the welcome message:]

This list is intended for actual experimentation with ISO 8859/1 and ISO DIS
10646 CM 5 L 2 (Draft International Standard 10646, compaction mode 5, level
2). Contributors are encouraged to use 8859/1 (Latin-1) and 10646/5/2.

Discussion of the results or implications of experiments is welcome, as are
postings in any of the many languages represented in 10646/5/2. Postings
in languages (i.e. other than English) are especially encouraged, whether
as examples or discussion. The "mainstream" discussion(s) are carried on in
the ISO10646 list, the IETF SMTPEXT WG list(s), and others(?).

Note that a contribution will pass through the MTA (Mail Transport Agent)
on your system, any "smarter host" your host defaults to, the MX's for
RELAY.Prime.COM (none, except itself), the MX's for the list subscriber,
and the list subscriber's MTA. If all of these are "8-bit-text clean",
the subscriber will see your message un-munged. All (other) cases are part
of the subject of the experiment.

This list is also intended to stress-test the mailer on RELAY.Prime.COM,
using the DNS to resolve X.25 and ISDN addresses for SMTP/X.25/ISDN (RFC1090)
as well as the usual Internet addresses. If you want to receive this list by
SMTP/X.25, add the appropriate RR(s) to your DNS zone. (See RFC1183 for more
information. RFCs are available from Service@Relay.Prime.COM, among other
places.)

To start a subscription, send mail to
          ISOC-Subscribe@List.Prime.COM
    All other administrative correspondence to
          ISOC-Request@List.Prime.COM

The List Cvordinator is Robert Ullmann, Ariel@Relay.Prime.COM (July 1991)

The ISOC list is not moderated. All submissions are automatically reflected
to the entire list of subscribers.
