Thank you for your detail answers. I will definitely have to check the new 
draft https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-bonnell-lamps-chameleon-certs/

The composite certificates draft is also interesting, but I'm more interested 
in the backwards compatibility problem than the security level at the moment.
