A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories. This draft is a work item of the TCP/UDP Over CLNP-Addressed
Networks Working Group of the IETF.

Title : CLNP Path MTU Discovery
       Author(s) : D. Piscitello
       Filename : draft-ietf-tuba-mtu-00.txt
       Pages : 18
       Date : 05/09/1994

This memo describes a technique for dynamically discovering the maximum
transmission unit (MTU) of an arbitrary CLNP path. The mechanism described
here is applicable to both "pure-stack" OSI as well as TUBA/CLNP [6]
environments, i.e., environments where Internet transport protocols (UDP
and TCP) are operated over CLNP. The memo specifies a small change to the
way routers generate one type of CLNP Error Report. For a path that passes
through a router that has not been changed, this technique might not
discover the correct Path MTU, but it will always choose a Path MTU as
accurate as, and in many cases more accurate than, the Path MTU that would
be chosen by current practice.
