Montevideo would be a fantastic choice for a future IETF meeting location. I personally visited Montevideo within the past year (2026), and the comments below are based on that experience. Experience as a Visitor -- Montevideo is a safe, welcoming city with excellent infrastructure for international visitors. The city offers a wide range of local neighborhood restaurants that are both high quality and very reasonably priced. The city is highly walkable, and transportation options are plentiful. Ride-sharing services such as Uber, as well as traditional taxis, are readily available and significantly less expensive than comparable options in many cities across Europe, North America, and Asia. As an English speaker I found the country easy to navigate with a great many of the people I encountered were fluent in multiple languages. Air Travel -- The international airport (MVD) is modern, efficient, and located close to the city center, making arrivals and departures straightforward and convenient. It offers direct connections to numerous international destinations. Montevideo also benefits from its proximity to Buenos Aires (EZE), which can be reached via a relatively simple ferry connection. This substantially expands available flight options for international attendees and can help reduce travel costs for many participants. Community -- From the perspective of the IETF's mission, Montevideo is home to a growing and highly capable community of technologists, Internet companies, and networking professionals. Several organizations and individuals from the region already participate in IETF activities, providing a strong foundation for local engagement and outreach. Final Opinion — It would be better to visit when the weather in South American is best, so either the March or November meeting slots. Overall, Montevideo has the potential to be one of the best IETF meeting locations to we have visited. It combines affordability, accessibility, safety, strong transportation infrastructure, and a growing Internet technology community. I believe it would provide an excellent experience for attendees while also supporting broader participation from the region. regards Glenn Deen
