We have venues which probably are cheaper in Central and South America and Africa, but don’t want to go there … I don’t think is just a matter of price, but conveniente, and availability of sufficient facilities as we need. All will love Madrid, I’m sure about that! So we can start negotiating with the hotel right after the meeting and have the next one in March or November! E.g., today's projected high in Bangkok, which I found to be unpleasantly warm in March, is the same as today's high in Utrecht, because we're on the tail end of a heat dome. Nobody here uses AC. It's been a delight. > > What I think is more important to consider is whether the local infrastructure can handle extreme temperatures if they are likely. This too is hard to predict, but probably less hard. It sounds like Madrid may have the infrastructure needed to deal with normal hot temperatures. But Spain did have a massive blackout earlier this year. If that happens on a day when there's a high of 37C, will people with health vulnerabilities be okay? > > Bangkok suffered a scary earthquake a few weeks after we were there. E.g., Tim is skipping Madrid. There are lots of things that can cause people to self-select to not attend. This is just another of them. > > Well, I’m attending remotely. There’s a more pressing reason I can’t attend in person, but were it not for that then yes, I’d still skip a venue that may hit 40’C+. I appreciate it’s likely a cheap venue for us, but there must also be cheaper less hot venues for July. > > Tim > > > On 2 Jul 2025, at 15:08, Joe Abley <jabley=40strandkip.nl@dmarc.ietf.org <mailto:jabley=40strandkip.nl@dmarc.ietf.org>> wrote: > > On 2 Jul 2025, at 13:48, Tim Chown <Tim.Chown=40jisc.ac.uk@dmarc.ietf.org <mailto:Tim.Chown=40jisc.ac.uk@dmarc.ietf.org>> wrote: > > Does the meeting selection doc say anything about typical temperatures in the candidate city for selection?
