I forwarded this (and my own experience) to MTD@ietf so that they can address with TICC.
I've noticed at least 3 dodgy power strips (in separate rooms), and in each case they are dead (no lights on the power switch), and if you bump them they pop and spark. I removed the two that I found previously, but caveat "pluggor"...
