The potential for an unknown party seems to arise when an app changes from the user's typical resolver to some unknown-to-the-user party, so I agree this is a risk. And I also feel it is high time we all, strongly, push back on the dramatic rise and potential future continuation towards consolidation/centralisation. This seems an unacceptable state for the Internet and for society, and we can't just shrug it off - we have a role to play here too IMO.
