Hi Eric, Many thanks for delivering this information. It indeed looks very much like several things (a combination?) currently the RTG area being worked on. I agree that It is pretty much the same as CATS. Regarding the similarity with the existing APN drafts, I made this diff, and I will leave you to judge on the similarities. Even the same letter chosen for the “D” flag? The difference is that it is explained in the APN draft. https://author-tools.ietf.org/diff?doc_1=draft-li-apn-ipv6-encap-06&doc_2=draft-ma-intarea-encapsulation-of-san-header-00 Best Regards, Shuping From: Apn [mailto:apn-bounces@ietf.org] On Behalf Of Eric Vyncke (evyncke) Sent: Sunday, March 26, 2023 2:13 PM To: adrian@olddog.co.uk; apn@ietf.org Cc: 'John Scudder' <jgs@juniper.net>; 'Erik Kline' <ek.ietf@gmail.com>; 'Alvaro Retana' <aretana.ietf@gmail.com>; 'Andrew Alston' <andrew-ietf@liquid.tech>; 'James Guichard' <james.n.guichard@futurewei.com> Subject: Re: [Apn] [Cats] FW: [Int-area] Intarea WG agenda Passing the information to the APN working group as well (thanks to Adrian for the hint) -éric From: Adrian Farrel <adrian@olddog.co.uk<mailto:adrian@olddog.co.uk>> Organisation: Old Dog Consulting Reply to: "adrian@olddog.co.uk<mailto:adrian@olddog.co.uk>" <adrian@olddog.co.uk<mailto:adrian@olddog.co.uk>> Date: Sunday, 26 March 2023 at 13:57 To: Eric Vyncke <evyncke@cisco.com<mailto:evyncke@cisco.com>>, "cats@ietf.org<mailto:cats@ietf.org>" <cats@ietf.org<mailto:cats@ietf.org>> Cc: "int-area@ietf.org<mailto:int-area@ietf.org>" <int-area@ietf.org<mailto:int-area@ietf.org>>, 'John Scudder' <jgs@juniper.net<mailto:jgs@juniper.net>>, Erik Kline <ek.ietf@gmail.com<mailto:ek.ietf@gmail.com>>, 'Alvaro Retana' <aretana.ietf@gmail.com<mailto:aretana.ietf@gmail.com>>, 'Andrew Alston' <andrew-ietf@liquid.tech<mailto:andrew-ietf@liquid.tech>>, 'James Guichard' <james.n.guichard@futurewei.com<mailto:james.n.guichard@futurewei.com>> Subject: RE: [Cats] FW: [Int-area] Intarea WG agenda Thanks Eric, that’s helpful. The agenda slot is: Tuesday, March 28, 2023 17:00-18:00 Tuesday Afternoon Session IV The agenda item and related drafts are as shown below. 4. Service aware network (SAN) framework and data plane solutions - Daniel Huang draft-huang-intarea-san-framework-00 draft-ma-intarea-identification-header-of-san-00 draft-ma-intarea-encapsulation-of-san-header-00 draft-zhou-intarea-aware-route-san-database-00 draft-zhou-intarea-computing-segment-san-01 20 mins The work certainly seems related, but a quick reading suggests that the approach chosen is to mark the traffic according to the service and then route according to that marker. This seems (to me) to be closer to APNET proposals (https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/apn/about/) where a charter is currently being developed and discussed with the IESG. I would certainly encourage the authors with their work, but also I would invite them to try to contribute to existing work efforts and not create new ones where there is overlap.
