[CCAMP] ACTN PoI Pluggable Use Cases call on 02/04/2024

Dear CCAMP colleagues,

              Today, as announced in the CCAMP meeting and mailing list, we started the series of conference calls on ACTN PoI Pluggables Use cases, starting from the document presented in ccamp meeting in draft-poidt-ccamp-actn-poi-pluggable-usecases-gaps .

              We reviewed the document and, in the call, we focused on the use case of  Coherent DWDM pluggable insertion in the router linecard port. The discussion is tracked in github in https://github.com/oscargdd/draft-poidt-ccamp-actn-poi-pluggable-usecases-gaps/issues/9. Please note that, as the document is still an individual draft we are using personal github repository (will be in ccamp when the document is adopted).

              I would like to summarize the discussion here, so we can also use the mailing list for discussion.

Once a pluggable module is inserted in the proper linecard port, should it start in "shutdown" mode? If the pluggable has pre-configurations (either from factory, or externally by any means), such pre-configurations should be learnt also in the discovery phase.

There was some discussions around "plug and play". The general consensus was that, for the pluggable case, what is really desired is "plug and discover", and then, do the proper configurations to work, but NOT just "out of the box" start to work.

Next week we will review the use case with suggestions from the participants (contributions via Pull Request in github) and continue with the next use case in the draft. Join us if you are interested in the topic!
