Hi,

I would be interested in presenting an idea at the GAIA meeting in Vienna,
if there is an available slot.

I am a professor and researcher at the Instituto Federal do Sertão
Pernambucano (IFSertãoPE) in northeastern Brazil, where I work on community
networks, IoT, and digital inclusion initiatives in the semi-arid Sertão
region.

I have been thinking about a gap in how we document community network
deployments. We have a solid taxonomy of alternative network models (RFC
7962) and, more recently, valuable work on operational practices around
device lifecycle (draft-gaia-circular-device-practices-00). But from my
experience working with underserved communities, one recurring challenge is
the lack of a shared, process-oriented reference that helps practitioners
navigate the full journey of deploying and sustaining a community network —
from early community engagement through governance, operations, and
long-term sustainability.

The idea I would like to discuss is whether a maturity framework — defining
key processes, practices, and progressive stages — could serve as a useful
tool for the community networking space, and whether GAIA would be a good
place for such work.

I would also be happy to connect with others working on similar questions.

Best regards,
Marcelo Santos
