I appreciate that problem. I understand you volunteered (or were volunteered) to coordinate this, and any procedural problems or quirks are not your fault.

My understanding of the group's viewpoint is that if you tag this string as "ar", its correct directionality will (or may) not be honored, but if you tag it as "ar-d-rtl" then it will. Is this correct? This would also answer #2.

That's actually helpful; it provides a definition for 'auto' ("directionality determined by Unicode Bidi Algorithm") which does not exist in the current I-D.

Well, if you define a registry and provisions for amending it, then you don't have to have all the answers right away.

I think this would help, but I don't think we can guarantee that it is the only objection that people here or at W3C will have. For me at least, the "ar" versus "ar-d-rtl" question above is paramount.
