The IESG has approved the Internet-Draft "Evolution of the Interfaces
Group of MIB-II" <draft-ietf-ifmib-evolution-07.txt> as a Proposed
Standard. This document is the product of the Interfaces MIB Working
Group. The IESG contact person is Marshall T. Rose.

The IESG has also approved moving RFC 1229 "Extensions to the
Generic-Interface MIB" to Historic Status as the above document
supercedes RFC 1229.

Technical Summary

This memo discusses the 'interfaces' group of MIB-II, especially the
experience gained from the definition of numerous media-specific MIB
modules for use in conjunction with the 'interfaces' group for managing
various sub-layers beneath the internetwork-layer. It proposes
clarifications to, and extensions of, the architectural issues within
the current model used for the 'interfaces' group.

Working Group Summary

There was no significant dissent in the working group.

Protocol Quality

The document has been reviewed by the NM Area Director.
