That is a misunderstanding.  

We are all supposed to be acting as individuals here, voicing our own opinions as to what is best for the Internet.    Nobody's opinion counts more than any one else's when it comes to determining consensus.

That said, many individuals (hopefully most of us) do care about the degree of impact that a design choice would have, so    if an employee of a major vendor says that a choice will have a significant impact on that vendor's customers, that input tends to be taken seriously.   Actually, input of that kind tends to be taken seriously even if it doesn't come from a vendor's employee, but it might be taken as more credible if it comes from someone who is presumed to have first-hand knowledge.
