ACME has shown that automation for PKI can be done, and works well.

I'm not saying it's trivial, just that the effort is minor on a comparatively small number of servers.  Lack of support in TLS packages is probably a blocker, but it depends on when you want to deploy this.

SRV is interesting.  Is that documented in your expired draft? :)
