As far as I know, SGMP/SNMP is the only purpose for which IANA has consciously given out OIDs. Nothing says they can't do it for any other usage if they want to, but I can't identify any documented instance (e.g., in RFC 1340) where they have done so. So I guess you could ask for anything, but in fairness/honesty anyone who does so should make it clear what they are doing. /Bill Barns
