I have to say that Marshall's previous messages don't impress me as
having been based on a following of the previous conversation on the
topic.

The current POP3 spec is ambiguous with respect to the behavior upon
dropped connections.  Current widely-deployed POP3 servers do
different things.  The spec needs to be fixed one way or the other.

None of the posters advocating that POP3 servers not remove deleted
messages have addressed Steve Dorner's objections to that solution.
Neither have those advocates given any technical arguments that I find
convincing.

And nobody has answered my previous query on the topic, posted May 26:
