Subject: LAST

Another unclear part of the current spec is the interpretation of the LAST
command.

I know people who have written servers that treat "LAST" as a more-or-less
permanent property of the maildrop. That is, if I retrieve messages 1-8 in
one session (and don't delete them), LAST will give me "8" at the beginning
of the next session.

Other servers reset LAST to 0 at the start of each session.

I cannot really tell what is intended by RFC 1460.

I have no use for LAST if it is reset to 0 for each session. LAST that
lasts from session to session has potential use.

(I'm afraid we're having an "incident" at qualcomm, and mail is coming
through sporadically, so I'm not up-to-date. Apologies if this is already
being discussed.)
