Henry,
It is not the external alerting devices themselves that are part of the
spec, it is just the signal to them from the sip device.

The need is valid in business as well as other environments.

A question:
There is a sentence in the original sipdev-01 spec about the location of the
call that I do not understand, please explain.

Yes, that is what I proposed to require - interfaces to external alerting
devices, wired or wireless.
