Hi J. Touch,

The work in http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-touch-tcpm-automatic-iw-03, proposes an an algorithm for
automating IW-size of TCP connections, based on the statistics of IW-losses of previous connections. It updates the IW-size based on the number of losses observed for the IW segments in the previous say 1000 connections, such that the IW-size is increased if the fraction of losses is below a threshold, and decreased otherwise. The problem is, it sets a single IW-size for a large number of consecutive connections if these connections observe same number previous IW losses. I think the variation in IW for flows is very small, which means still the concept of a single constant IW for many flows.

Regards,
- Runa Barik

There has been a proposal to automate the IW which was described here:

http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-touch-tcpm-automatic-iw-03

An API might interact with that mechanism, e.g., changing parameters.
