I use geany for my edits and its spellcheck plugin.

Also I will take the txt file and open it in OpenOffice Writer and use 
its spellcheck.  We have so many special terms that spellchecking is a 
job.  I can right click on ignore all for TLAs and IETFish words so I 
can find those needles resting in the haystack.
