Hi Newcomers,

IETF 108 Online is right around the corner! Here is some information and events you can join before and during the meeting week.

Newcomer’s Slack Channel:

Join the Newcomers Slack Channel to ask questions from experienced IETFers and other newcomers or just to talk about your meeting experience with other newcomers. The channel is #108newcomers in the IETF Slack workspace, https://ietf.slack.com You can create an account by visiting https://join.slack.com/t/ietf/shared_invite/zt-frvduilu-k9UfPr3sAelv_XPptqJ4wQ

Newcomer’s Quick Connections:

Thursday, 23 July at 15:00 UTC (8:00 PST, 11:00 EST, 17:00 CET, 00:00 JST)

Newcomers’ Quick Connections is a simple and effective way for you to be introduced to a variety of experienced IETF attendees — often working group (WG) chairs — who can help you get more involved in your areas of interest. In just one quick hour, you can (virtually) meet a number of experienced IETFers and Newcomers in a simple accessible format. Pre-registration is required and space is somewhat limited. You can sign up for Newcomers’ Quick Connections here:https://forms.gle/DFa9TB2K6URiHCjz9

The Newcomer’s Quick Connections will be held at Gather.town <https://gather.town/>, a social interaction platform that will be available for participants to use during the IETF 108 meeting week.

Newcomers Coffee Breaks:

Tuesday, July 28 at 10:30 UTC (3:30 PST, 6:30 EST, 12:30 CET, 19:30 JST)
Thursday, July 30 at 16:30 UTC (9:30 PST, 12:30 EST, 18:30 CET, 01:30 JST)

The IETF Newcomers’ Coffee Breaks are 15-20 minute gatherings where you can quickly meet other newcomers and experienced IETFers. Share thoughts on how your week is going or ask any questions that you might have.

The Newcomer’s Coffee Breaks will also be held at Gather.town <https://gather.town/>, the virtual platform used for the Newcomer’s Quick Connections.

IETF Guides:

The goal of the IETF Guides Program is to match experienced IETF participants with newcomers (people who have participated in five or fewer face-to-face meetings or anyone registering as a student) in order to aid their integration into the IETF community through advice, help, and collected wisdom. The assistance provided by the guides should speed up the time it takes for newcomers to become active, contributing members of the IETF. If you haven’t signed up for a guide yet, you still have the opportunity to request one by visiting https://guides.ietf.org/.

Newcomer’s Overview Presentation:

If you missed the Newcomer’s Overview Presentation, you can still review the slides for some helpful tips before the meeting week: https://www.ietf.org/media/documents/slides-edu-ietf-108-newcomer-slides.pdf
