cash works.  and carrying O(100,000¥ ~$1,000) is normal and not
worrysome.

workshop attendee collecting reimbursement was handed an envelope with a
couple thou US in it.  he asked "isn't this dangerous?"  the young lady
answered "yes.  you need to write your name on the envelope so they can
find you if you drop it."
