James

First - let me apologize for an overly contracted description - where I
referred to "...describing some of our efforts...", I should have been
clear about who we are and what areas of the DiffServ control plane we
are working on. So please accept my apology for any implications to the
contrary, and accept the following as a replacement.

In a just-completed draft about to be put in front of the dcpel list, we
(a team from Lockheed, Telcordia, Pollere) are describing our efforts
to date and are excited about further addressing the architectures, data
models, syntax, protocols, and security of DiffServ control planes in a
public forum with other folks working in and concerned with the area.

>How much of this future group's work do you believe you have completed
already?

I think the work we've done to date is of interest to this group - and
relevant. I would not presume to state we've completed the work of the
group. We have a working start. I would not characterize our system as
finished - more that we have a start and we like the results to date.

>You make it sound as though there is a lot of it already done; that
several
>choices have already been made.

Again I apologize for being unclear. While we've made choices in order
to proceed with our effort, it is just a start. What I described in my
reply to you was included for context regarding the question about COPS,
and our evaluation of its use for our effort.
