I don't get it.

Websockets is mostly an agreement protocol to avoid unwanted communication out of a sandbox.
(It also adds a quantum of addressing, and some middlebox massaging.)

What does that have in common with a framing layer for a transfer protocol?

For me stopping the urge to port websockets to it is the most important example for not wanting to factor out that layer.

(And, anyway, couldn't Websockets simply be left alone for a decade or so?
The process leading up to it was painful enough.)
