Yes, this is just a list that some Wikipedia contributor, "314pies" from Yorkshire, added this past January. There is no rationale given for how these 125 language subtags, about 1.5% of the total, were chosen for this list. Perhaps it was on the basis on total speakers; I haven't researched that.

In any case, there is no field in the actual Registry that expresses a judgment that certain languages are more "major," "common," or "important" than others. There are plenty of other resources for that.

Wikipedia can be a very helpful resource, but additional content like this from non-expert contributors can be very misleading, as you have shown. The Registry is really the best choice for determining what is in the Registry; even though it is more than 48,700 lines long, it can be easily searched. The URL of the Registry is listed in both the "References" and "External links" sections of the Wikipedia article; perhaps it should be even more prominent, such as in a box near the top.
