Dear Nomcom members, I think it is very reasonable to use the time Lars has given us by notifying the community so early to extend the consideration time for candidates as well as confirm a replacement in time for a generous handoff period. I don't think the eligibility rules should be changed. The Nomcom volunteers always know that an vacancy is a possibility for any number of reasons, and juggling with eligibility rules demands a degree of consensus and conversation we may not have time for especially if we want to take advantage of the additional time for a more deliberate consideration and handoff period. This also means using the 2023-2024 NomCom as they are around and extant now. We can later debate 8713-bis to confirm these judgements. I hope these comments are useful.
